RUSHING
Box-Adjusted Efficiency (or BAE) Rating: the degree to which a running back’s per-carry output exceeds or falls short of the collective per-carry output of the other running backs on his team, relative to the defensive fronts they’ve each carried the ball against. Calculated using a weighted average derived from the relationship between a player’s per-carry average and his teammates’ per-carry average at each respective box count. Expressed as a percentage, with 100.0% representing output exactly on par with one’s situational baseline.
Box Count Average: the average number of defenders in the box that a player has faced on his rushing attempts.
Box Count+ (or BC+): the degree to which a running back’s Box Count Average exceeds or falls short of the collective Box Count Average of the other running backs on his team.
Breakaway Conversion Rate (or BCR): the percentage of a player’s chunk runs that he extends into gains of 20 or more yards.
Chunk Rate: the percentage of a player’s rushing attempts that go for at least ten yards.
Chunk Rate+ (or CR+): the degree to which a running back’s Chunk Rate exceeds or falls short of the collective Chunk Rate of the other running backs on his team.
Relative Success Rate (or RSR): the degree to which a running back’s Success Rate exceeds or falls short of the collective Success Rate of the other running backs on his team, relative to the defensive fronts they’ve each carried the ball against. Calculated using a weighted average derived from the relationship between a player’s Success Rate and his teammates’ Success Rate at each respective box count. 0.0% represents performance exactly on par with one’s situational baseline.
Weighted YPC+: the degree to which a running back’s per-carry output exceeds or falls short of the collective per-carry output of the other running backs on his team, relative to the defensive fronts they’ve each carried the ball against. Calculated using a weighted average derived from the difference between a player’s per-carry average and his teammates’ per-carry average at each respective box count. Measures the same thing as Box-Adjusted Efficiency Rating, but is expressed as a yardage value rather than as a percentage.
Yards Per Carry+ (or YPC+): the degree to which a running back’s per-carry output exceeds or falls short of the collective per-carry output of the other running backs on his team, calculated by subtracting from a given player’s per-carry average that of his collective teammates.
PRODUCTION
Dominator Rating (or DR): the percentage of total offensive output that a running back accounts for on his own team. Prorated based on games played and calculated with double weight given to yards versus touchdowns.
Satellite Score: in the context of the offense in which he operates, indicates the degree to which a running back’s role and productive output skew toward the receiving game. Calculated by dividing a player’s Target Share by his Dominator Rating.
Target Share: the percentage of total targets that a running back accounts for on his own team. Prorated based on games played.
Touchdown Share (or TD Share): the percentage of total touchdowns that a running back accounts for on his own team. Prorated based on games played.
Yards Share: the percentage of total yards that a running back accounts for on his own team. Prorated based on games played.
